Directors Sean Wang (Dìdi (弟弟)) , Fernanda Valadez and Astrid Rondero (Sujo), Jack Begert (Little Death), and Caroline Lindy (Your Monster) speak about their experiences casting and working with the performers, from Joan Chen and David Schwimmer to talented newcomers, that gave such memorable and moving performances in their films.
Sean Wang is a filmmaker from Fremont, California. He is a Google Creative Lab 5 alum and a Sundance Institute Directors and Screenwriters Lab fellow. His documentary short, Nǎi Nai & Wài Pó, premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival where it won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award.
Mexican writers/directors/producers Astrid Rondero and Fernanda Valadez have collaborated for 15 years. Their previous feature, Identifying Features (2020) received awards at the Sundance, San Sebastian, Zurich, and Thessaloniki film festivals and a Gotham Award for Best International Film.
Jack Begert is a filmmaker known for his striking aesthetic and surreal use of visual effects, which have led him to work with some of the most iconic and prolific musical artists of our time including Kendrick Lamar and Doja Cat. Little Death is his first feature film.
A New York City native, Caroline Lindy moved to Los Angeles to pursue her passion for filmmaking. She was awarded a grant from Women in Film to make the short film Your Monster. Her latest short, Aspirational Slut, received the 2022 SXSW Narrative Shorts Audience Award.
